Leadership Wilkes-Barre Class of 2017

Well I must say that being part of the Class of 2017 is extremely rewarding.

On April 6th, we had class and seminars at the Pittston Library and we were able to participate in a session where we learned about each other’s ethnic backgrounds.  We were encouraged to bring either a sampling of food or drink regarding our heritage or bring an item to explain the importance of our background and share our stories with the class.  It was fun and enlightening.  I brought in an Irish rosary with St. Patrick on it that was blessed at the chapel of Our Lady of Knock in Ireland, as I am part Irish.  We got to sample many foods and goodies, which included homemade anise cookies in the shape of Easter animals, and room temperature pizza served by Italians.  The pizza actually has a name the Italians call it, but I was unable to pronounce it and don’t know how to spell it, so I will not attempt to try stating it here, although I believe that many people have tried it.  For a large group of Americans, we certainly have a lot of different ethnic backgrounds and many traditions that are still practiced today.

We also had a seminar about exploring Emotional Intelligence: The Key to Professional and Personal Success as well as learned how to put this knowledge into practice in our daily lives. That was very interesting.  We also got to finish up our day at the Tomato Bar in Pittston where we were able to share additional stories and learn more about each other.

At the end of this month, we will be going on a Prison Tour and I will fill you in on anything interested that occurred.

Meanwhile, my team, The Olympic Warriors, is in the process of making our video relating to our leadership project to encourage, equip and enrich the Special Olympians by supplying them with new uniforms, hoodies, basketballs, a basketball bag, measuring tapes, a banner, and a few other items that we are still trying to obtain for them that are on their wish list.  We hope to provide the Special Olympians with everything they requested.

On Saturday, April 15th, the Olympic Warriors had the pleasure of handing out more uniforms to the Special Olympians at Chacko’s bowling alley and a great time was had by all.  Thank you to everyone who has helped us in away way to accomplish our project goals!
